Volunteering

---

Volunteering is not just about helping in a charity shop or a day centre. It offers people the ideal opportunity to use their skills within either a field they are already familiar with or to try something completely different and gain new abilities at the same time.

Today, more and more people turn to volunteering for beneficial experiences, to get involved in the community, to help a cause they believe in or to make new friends and have a good time!

Interested?

If you are considering undertaking some form of voluntary work, Volunteering Bradford is your local gateway.  Their Centres in Bradford and Shipley have regularly updated records of available placements with community groups, charities and voluntary organisations.

There are details of a wide range of volunteering opportunities covering topics such as education, counselling, environmental work, sport, cultural activities, helping children and families, advice work, helping people with special needs, working with young people... there is something for everyone!

So what are the benefits?

- a chance to develop new skills or brush up old ones
- create new paths to different careers or training opportunities
- do something worthwhile for the benefit of others
- a chance to meet new people and make new friends
- relieve the boredom of spare time, unemployment or unstimulating paid work

More information

- At Bradford CVS we do not help individuals find volunteering opportunities - our focus is more on helping to support voluntary groups. See the options below if you think you would like to volunteer.
- If you would like to arrange an appointment to discuss volunteering, contact Volunteering Bradford, on tel. 01274 720744  (Bradford) or 01274 588233 (Shipley) or email: bradfordvc@volunteeringbradford.org
- Volunteering Bradford has its own pages at www.volunteeringbradford.org
- If you are a young person interested in volunteering you could get in touch with Millennium Volunteers, which supports young people 16-24 years old to gain a Certificate of Achievement for becoming involved in volunteering. The Award offers recognition for the number of hours young people have achieved by helping others in the community either through the more formal volunteering opportunities or through developing your own Group Led Project. Volunteering offers opportunities to gain new skills, meet new people, build up your CV. MV is a national movement with 114 MV Projects established around England.
